Many people have asked us what the difference is between gazebos and pergolas , not to mention other structures such as summerhouses, belvederes, pavilions, follies, kiosks, conservatories, and even pagodas. This short article will clarify the differences and similarities between these various structures. A gazebo is a type of pavilion structure, which is sometimes hexagonal or octagonal, but often round, and it usually has a domed roof. They can be either freestanding, or attached to a garden wall, and they are, traditionally, open on all sides, such as the Victorian gazebo , in England, shown above.

Long term vs short term leases is much like the old argument of risk versus reward. Short term leases provide higher highs and lower lows, while long term leases are a moderate investment path that should provide consistent, average returns.

Thursday, March 29, This Relationship Corner: Short and Long Term Attraction We usually can’t help who we’re attracted to. The instant we lay eyes on someone we know whether we find that person attractive. It could be for a variety of different reasons, but before we take our next blink we know if we’re attracted. It may not make any sense to us, or anyone else, or it could be the most obvious thing in the world. We’ve all found ourselves hopelessly attracted.

Attraction is tricky, but it isn’t as big a mystery as we might think. True, sometimes there’s no accounting for taste, but many times, it tracks. We ‘fall’ for very specific reasons, and if we look inside ourselves, we can figure out just who is our type, and why. We might also want to figure out whether we want to act on our attraction, as it could be leading us in a very bad direction. Other times, our attraction is telling us something our conscious mind hasn’t quite figured out – this person could be a great match for us.

To get a closer look at attraction, I’m going to talk about two of the main categories:

This always fascinated me. He quickly deduced that she was the appropriate height finally! They decided it would work. A week later, they were married. And they still are, 35 years later. Happily so—and probably more so than most people I know who had nonarranged marriages. First I texted four friends who travel and eat out a lot and whose judgment I trust. I checked the website Eater for its Heat Map, which includes new, tasty restaurants in the city.

Then I checked Yelp.

By Brett D Furniss In property management, one of the things we discuss with new clients is their goals. Are they planning on keeping the property long term or are they looking to sell it at the first opportunity? Do they want to move back into it at some point? How much flexibility do they need? Open in a separate window Note: The wave 4 outcome-by-treatment and the wave 1 outcome-by-booster interactions are included in the models as required because of the dummy coding of the treatment and booster variables, but they are conceptually meaningless. Next we compared the booster to the control group. There were also no significant differences between those 2 groups in follow-up psychological abuse perpetration in any of the strata of prior wave 4 psychological abuse perpetration.

Thus, there were no situations in which the booster group reported significantly more perpetration at follow-up than controls. A similar pattern emerged when considering serious physical and sexual victimization in that in all 3 strata of prior victimization, adolescents exposed to the booster reported more serious physical and sexual victimization at follow-up than adolescents who received only Safe Dates.

These days, who really needs a ring? One married, one not. The others joked that in their experience only married women felt there was a true difference between husbands and boyfriends, and it was likely because they were married. Um…okay, if you say so. One of them challenged me to explain how my marriage was different from her long-term relationship.

In the past, I have had just short-term dating checked. To me that meant finding a respectful FWB-type relationship, with the focus on dating and sex and little to no incorporation of that person into my family/friend sphere.

Arranged marriage and Forced marriage In many cultural traditions, a date may be arranged by a third party, who may be a family member, acquaintance, or professional matchmaker. In some cultures, a marriage may be arranged by the couple’s parents or an outside party. Recently, internet dating has become popular. Theoretical background[ edit ] Research on human mating strategies is guided by the theory of sexual selection , and in particular, Robert Trivers ‘ concept of parental investment. In humans, females make a larger parental investment than males i.

While human males invest heavily in their offspring as well, their minimum parental investment is still lower than that of females. Hence, evolutionary psychologists have predicted a number of sex differences in human mating strategies. Sexual desire[ edit ] One theory states that because of their lower minimum parental investment, men can achieve greater reproductive success by mating with multiple women than women can achieve by mating with multiple men.

Ancestral women, by contrast, would have maximized reproductive success not by mating with as many men as possible, but by selectively mating with those men who were most able and willing to invest resources in their offspring. Gradually in a bid to compete to get resources from potential men, women have evolved to show extended sexuality. Men are often depicted as wanting numerous female sexual partners to maximise reproductive success. Mate-guarding behaviours and sexual jealousy point to an evolutionary history in which sexual relations with multiple partners became a recurrent adaptive problem, [10] while the willingness of modern-day men to have sex with attractive strangers, [11] and the prevalence of extramarital affairs in similar frequencies cross-culturally, are evidence of an ancestral past in which polygamous mating strategies were adopted.

Dating violence has long-term consequences for teens Teen dating violence is a serious public health concern. July 10, – Author: A study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that 75 percent of seventh graders report having a boyfriend or girlfriend. For some young people, these are healthy and loving relationships that offer excellent opportunities to explore their beliefs and values about relationships.

For too many others, these relationships are unhealthy — and can cross the line into being emotionally and physically abusive.

Another factor that makes long-term relationships different from short-term ones is that they are more complex. When a couple begins to take care of a household together, has children, and perhaps has to care for elderly parents, the requirements of the relationship become correspondingly bigger.

While online dating has become a completely socially acceptable way of meeting new people, a new study shows some apps have a ways to go toward creating spaces where women feel safe. It looked at Tinder, Match, Grindr, eHarmony, and OKCupid to glean some understanding of the behaviors of online daters in the wake of a recent Pew study which showed that online dating has increased among all age groups since Perhaps not surprisingly, men surveyed reported a much lower frequency of harassment.

When it comes to feelings of harassment, survey respondents were all over the place; however, user experiences did appear to run along gender lines. Oddly enough, when people described which apps led to relationships of any length , Tinder, OKCupid, Match, and eHarmony all landed within a few percentage points of one another.

However, when they specified the length of the relationship, Match and not eHarmony, which touts itself as being for more serious daters produced the greatest number of relationships lasting more than one month. A whopping 33 percent reported having relationships lasting longer than six months. A paltry 13 percent reported relationships beyond the one month mark. And as more apps and sites flood the market, users have even more choices to try to target a specific type of relationship, dodge harassment, and find the right fit.
